The Church of St. Peter is a Roman Catholic parish church under the authority of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of New York, located in Staten Island, New York City in the neighborhood of New Brighton. The parish was established in 1839.[1] St. Peter's is the oldest of the 36 Roman Catholic parishes on Staten Island, having been established in 1839, before the second-oldest St. Mary's (1852), and the third-oldest St. Joseph's (1855).[2]

Buildings

The church was built between 1905 and 1919 by the firm of Harding & Gooch. The rectory was built to design of George H. Streeton.

Parish schools

Three parochial schools existed in the parish: St. Peter's Boys High School, St. Peter's Elementary School and St. Peter's High School for Girls. Both the elementary and the girls' high school were closed in June, 2011. The elementary was moved to join St. Paul's School, now known as St. Peter and Paul. The Girls High School's doors were shut forever to make way for the NYC Dept of Education to spend $5M in renovations and reopen the school in a approx. two years as a new public school on the North Shore.
